Lying there on the cold floor, you tell yourself that giving up would be the easy choice right now. Getting back up for tenth time is painful – it hurts in places you didn’t know you could hurt. But there’s no other option. It was never going to be simple. If it was easy, someone else would have done it already. It wouldn’t be your trick, it wouldn’t have the same meaning.
The driving force is clear: everyone else said it was impossible. You even doubted yourself at the start, but on that last attempt, you got so close to nailing it – victory was almost in reach. You don’t worry about falling anymore, you’ve just learned how to fall properly. No matter how hard you try, you know you’re going to fall. It’s integral to the process – why fight it? No risk, no reward. Anyways, it doesn’t matter, falling is only one part of it. The more important part has always been about learning to get back up again.
Stand up, flip the board over, breathe… and let’s give it another go.
